Professor Joseph Olusesan Fadare is a distinguished Physician, clinical pharmacologist, bioethicist, and educator leading the transformation of rational drug use, antimicrobial stewardship, and patient-centered healthcare delivery across Africa and beyond.

I am a Professor of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, College of Medicine, Ekiti State University. In addition, I am a Consultant Physician/Clinical Pharmacologist at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital. I am an alumnus of Varna Medical University, Bulgaria from where I bagged the MD degree. I qualified as a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in Internal Medicine (sub-specialty of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics) after my residency training at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. Because of my interest in clinical research, I was awarded the European Commission scholarship in 2008 for a joint Master’s degree in Bioethics (Erasmus Mundus Master of Bioethics (specialization Research Ethics) from the Katholieke University (KU), Leuven, Belgium, Radboud University, Nijmegen in the Netherlands and the University of Padova, Italy which I completed in 2009. My research interests are in the following areas: pharmacoepidemiology and drug utilization (including antimicrobials), antimicrobial stewardship, pharmacovigilance, geriatric pharmacology, clinical trials and medical ethics. As a recognition of my research efforts, I was awarded the prestigious Fellowship of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine and Academy of Medical Sciences in 2022 and 2024 respectively.
I have been involved in the teaching of undergraduate medical students for 18 years the disciplines of General Internal Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. I also am a Consultant Physician/Clinical Pharmacologist at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital with competence in managing chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension and tropical infectious diseases. I have also worked as member and chairperson of the hospital research ethics committee. I have held several leadership positions in the university such as: Head, Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics and Dean, Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences.
I have published extensively in my chosen areas of research with over 170 publications in peer-reviewed journals and four chapters in books. I am a reviewer for many indexed medical journals and also an academic editor with PLOS One and associate editor for Frontiers in Pharmacology. I serve as external examiner in Pharmacology and Therapeutics to many medical schools in Nigeria and also an examiner in the Faculty of Internal Medicine, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. I also serve as a resource person (expert assessor) to British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC) program on Global Antimicrobial Stewardship Accreditation Scheme.
